Creation of social space MH002

In brief, this included the full strip out of the existing room and the full refurbishment of the rooms to create a fresh new area . All areas were fully redecorated, new floor coverings laid, new suspended ceilings installed and all services (mechanical and Electrical) upgraded and high specification furniture and aesthetic finishes provided in the social space.

Benchmark were appointed by University of Wolverhampton as Principle Contractor on this project and were involved right from the start, liaising with the universities estates capital project management team and their appointed external CDM coordinators and designers.

We self-delivered the strip out phase, builders works to support the services contractors, plastering and carpentry elements. This meant that we had a presence on the site for the full duration of the works and were able to appoint one of our working supervisors to manage the site on a day to day basis.

In addition, in our role as PC we also had to coordinate other contractors on site including those appointed directly by the university such as Mechanical, Electrical and furniture installation contractors.

The outcome: This was a challenging project within the time frame with the building throwing up some challenges along the way, but with careful management, open communication and dedicated work from all on site the outcome was very successful.
